This course introduces the Tax Professional to a basic understanding of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) H.R. 6201, and the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES) Legislation, H.R. 748. The course lays the groundwork for preparing the new 2020 payroll tax returns as well as income tax returns needed during the 2021 filing season.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the course will introduce the Tax Professional to a very broad based overview of the H.R. 6201, which includes both the Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act and the Emergency Family Medical Leave Expansion Act. It will discuss the payroll tax credits available to employers who paid their employees during the pandemic when impacted by the coronavirus.

In addition, this course also introduces the participant to the CARES Act, with a broad based background on the purposes of the Legislation. This course is needed to better understand the changes made to the tax provisions in the Internal Revenue Code. This course is the prerequisite to NSTP's detailed course on FFCRA and CARES Act titled "COVID-19 Tax Legislation Facing Tax Professionals".

At the conclusion of this course, the participants will have attained a solid base of information needed to understand the changes made by both the Family First Coronavirus Response Act and the CARES Act. This course is suggested to those taking the advanced course of study in the "COVID-19 Tax Legislation Facing Tax Professionals". This presentation will help the participants in preparing the updated 2020 Form 941 for the second through fourth quarter payroll periods. This course will also assist the participant to be more familiar with changes to the 2020 income tax returns that will need to be filed during the 2021 filing season.
