PTIN System Outage Details
The IRS is able to provide a little more time before the end of the year for NEW preparers who are applying for a PTIN for the first time. New applicants should apply for their PTINs immediately. The system outage does not affect existing PTIN holders wishing to renew for 2012.
Here's the latest info:
The PTIN system will be unavailable for NEW applications from 5:00 PM ET on Monday, December 26
until approximately 9:00 AM ET on Monday, January 9. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. We also
are looking at ways to mitigate this problem for people who cannot submit their applications prior to December
